
The Iiyama Line is a local railway connecting Nagano Prefecture and Niigata Prefecture.
Only JR East local trains operate on this railway, and it runs along Japan’s longest river, the Chikuma River (also known as the Shinano River).
This area is one of Japan’s heaviest snowfall regions, showcasing breathtaking snowy landscapes in winter and beautiful natural scenery unique to Japan from spring through autumn.

Route and Travel Time
The Iiyama Line runs 96.7 km from its starting point at Toyono Station (Nagano Prefecture) to Echigo-Kawaguchi Station (Niigata Prefecture).
Traveling the entire route takes about 3 hours.

Train Information

※For timetables of other stations, please enter the station name in the “Search by Station” search bar on the linked page.
Prepaid IC cards (e.g. Suica) CANNOT BE USED on the Iiyama Line.
Please buy a ticket at a ticket machine.
※If boarding from an unmanned station, please obtain a numbered ticket immediately after boarding the train, and settle your fare either on the train, or at manned stations after getting off.
